Saturday was the perfect rainy day–not only were we blessed with a steady and much needed rain, but I didn’t have anywhere to go or anything on the calendar. To top it off, I had the house to myself. So with nothing to do but stay inside and sew I had created a pretty long list for myself. First up on the list was to sew Block 6 of the Fat Quarter Shop Mystery Designer Block of the Month. This month’s block was designed by Kate Spain, and it was a fun one! I also decided to sew the first six blocks together to make it easier for finishing up this spring. The Fat Quarter Shop setting is a real beauty!
Just a close up of the block…because it really was such so much fun to make!
Another project on my list was to work on my Christmas Scrappy Trip Around the World. This is my Bee’s Knee’s project for this year, and since I’ve received blocks from all but one bee member I decided to start sewing. I’m making a 30 block quilt, so I have some I’ll need to make myself, but it sure felt good to get this much put together.
I had some other things on my list, too. But then Camille posted her latest pattern…a mini Swoon. And of course I had to stop everything and make it. Because we all need mini Swoon quilts on the wall, right? Anyway…this filled up my Saturday evening, and by10ish when I finished I wasn’t a bit sorry I’d put everything on the back burner to make this little quilt. I can’t wait until I have a few minutes to quilt and bind it. I did get the binding ready, so it’s all set! (Also, on a side-note, Camille also designed a mini Spools quilt which has already moved ahead of everything else on my list)!
Now, I couldn’t have felt good about working on all of these things without first catching up on my Bee blocks. I really like being involved with the Bee because it is so much fun to get to work on projects I might not have chosen on my own. First up were Melissa’s improv Christmas trees. I was kind of dreading this project, but they ended up being pretty fun to piece.
Next up was Sinta’s “Starry Eyed” block. This is a free Moda Bakeshop pattern, and I really, really loved working on it. The wonky stars are a perfect way to use charm squares, and I can really see making a scrappy version for myself using this pattern.
Finally, I finished the oldest block I had…Trish’s smaller Swoon block. The bundle Trish used for her blocks had lots of pieces that weren’t full fat quarters making it necessary to size down the pattern (thanks Lori). Unfortunately, since I’d already done a lot of cutting, some of my pieces weren’t usable with the new design. Thank goodness for Etsy!
I’ll be paying for all of this sewing on Monday when I have to grade an entire stack of papers before class Tuesday morning. Oh well, I think it was still worth it. Thanks so much for stopping by!

You have really had a productive weekend, and beautiful pieced quilts. I am still trying to catch up with gifts, then it is my time to have fun and make some larger quilts.

Hi! I was wondering what the size was of Trish's smaller swoon… I don't want to go as small as the mini Camille just posted (but I am going to buy that pattern for future) I have a fat eighth bundle I'd like to use and I'd like to make a smaller swoon block than my pattern but afraid to try to figure it out – do you have cutting measurements you could share to downsize the original a bit? Thanks – I do own the original pattern. :O)

Wow…lots of great eye candy here this am! Wish I had unlimited time to just sew but dang these boxes won't pack themselves. I'm so glad I read about the mini swoon…now I just have to remember I loved it down the road when I'm sewing again. Happy Thanksgiving!

It was a treat to see the blocks sewn together for the Designer Sampler from the Fat Quarter Shop. I am also doing this BOM and think it is just beautiful. Each month I eagerly await the next block. I will definitely do a one of their BOMs again. They do such a nice job. Oh, and I can't believe how much you get done in a weekend. Crazy!

You get more done in a weekend than many do in a month! Glad it was such a great Saturday sewing session.

Lovely mini Swoon blocks! I especially like the mint green/pink combination. It contrasts beautifully with the white background!
