I’ve been working on a market quilt for my friend Lori this week (sneak peeks coming soon)…but I do have a few “what I’m working on Wednesday” things to share today! First is this little stack of Denyse Schmidt fabrics that came home with me yesterday…the orange prints are from the newly released Aunt Edna collection and were just calling my name. The aqua is from an earlier DS Quilts line and just seemed to want to jump right in with those oranges. As soon as I have a chance to cut some 2 ½” squares from these I’ll be making another Granny Square block!
I also had to make some more Farmer’s Wife blocks with some Fig Tree Dandelion Girl that arrived in the mail on Monday (thank you Karin)! This is block 8, “Bouquet,” and it was so fun and easy to make that I made 2. I’m going to need an additional 34 blocks to make the king-sized quilt, so I figure I might as well start making doubles of some of the blocks. I will also be adding in a few of my own.
I also made Block 7, “Birds in the Air.” I had the half-square triangles already made, so this block went together pretty quickly.
I sure am enjoying this Farmer’s Wife journey! (Here is a link for the Farmer’s Wife book…someone recently asked in a comment about where the book could be found: The Farmer’s Wife Sampler Quilt: Letters from 1920s Farm Wives and the 111 Blocks They Inspired
Oh, and my friend Sinta has a fun quilt-along she is starting for those of you who might have a Block-of-the-Month problem love! Head on over to her blog to find out about BOM Rehab!
Thanks for stopping by…have a great day!

I love your Farmer's Wife blocks. I'm sewing my blocks in Civil War and Thimbleberries scraps but I love your bright colors too. Maybe next time…

Your blocks look fabulius! I know what you mean about creating a few doubles here and there. Your quilt is going to be beautiful. :0) I have a stack of oranges and blues cut out for a throw size quilt. I just love that color combination for spring don't you? You are so fortunate to sew for Lori and others. That would be a dream come true for me. :0)
Have a wonderful rest of your week.

These fabrics will make wonderful granny square blocks. I remember orange being everywhere back in the '60's and '70's. I love it with the aqua.

Beautiful blocks!

Love those orange prints! I didn't buy any fabrics from that collection, but now I feel like I should. I love how the light blue looks on top. Your farmers market blocks look so tiny and precious. Great to hear about all your sewing adventures keeping you busy these days!

I just started a Churn Dash quilt in my Aunt Edna fabrics. My Joanns doesn't have the oranges – love them! Laurie Aaron Hird just spoke at my quilt guild Monday night and I purchased her Farmer's Wife book. Can't wait to get started – I need to decide on fabric first.
