Hello! Today I’m very excited to share a review of the new Reliable Velocity 2001R Compact Sensor Steam Iron! While this iron was provided to me at no cost, all opinions expressed in this post are my own.
My most recent iron is less than two years old and is already leaking and having
issues with the steam (it only works sporadically), so I was very excited to get the email from Megan asking if I was interested in trying out the new Reliable Velocity 200IR Compact Vapor Generator Iron.
This iron is a brand new product release and has fantastic features for quilters. I began by reading all of the directions thoroughly, purchased some distilled water and was ready to try it out with my Saturday sewing!
The iron is very easy to operate: there is a good power cord with plenty of length; the iron is comfortable to hold with ergonomic weight distribution; the on/off/temperature selection feature is easy to use, and the steam settings are easy to use.
There are two steam settings, medium and high, and the medium provides wonderful steam without being too little or too much. When you want extra steam, the high setting is absolutely perfect (I pressed some fat quarters that had been folded for a while with the high steam, and they pressed beautifully).
For my test ironing, I worked on a couple of 6″ finished blocks made up of several small pieces. Having a quality iron is important with all quilting, but you can really see the difference between a good iron and a poor one when working with smaller pieces.
I’m
happy to say this iron worked beautifully in pressing these small
pieces. It was at this point that I realized how poorly my previous iron
had been performing.
The sole plate on this iron is smooth as silk, and it was especially easy to press out the corner triangle pieces for the block.
This iron also has a terrific auto shut-off by pass feature. I was really interested in this feature because as a quilter I want my iron to be ready when I need it! It was easy to activate the feature, and it resets back to normal operation when you turn off the iron. When the auto shut-off feature isn’t activated, the iron will shut off after 8 minutes.
I’m absolutely delighted with my new iron. I immediately noticed a difference in my quilt blocks with such wonderful heat and steam features available to use.
I might even have to do some real ironing (iron clothes) to get to play with this a little more!
The new Reliable Velocity 200IR Compact Vapor Generator Iron debuts today! If you’re in the market for a new iron, I highly recommend this one!
Thanks so much for stopping by!

I was very excited to read your GREAT review, as I am in the market for a new iron that does NOT shut off automatically. My excitement was soon dashed, though, when I went to the link to purchase, and saw this notice:

We don't know when or if this item will be back in stock.

I have a different reliable iron and I really like it. Except I've used the bypass for the auto-shut off and I've left the iron on for three days!! Yikes. Your blocks are beautiful, BTW!!

This sounds like a great iron. I too have recently boughten a new iron. I'm still trying to find how to deactivate the 8 min shut-off, but maybe I better not – I have a fear of thinking it is in the shut-off mode and……!! Enjoy your new iron, Sherri!

It's so hard to find a good iron. I have a Tefal for a few years now and it's still okay but I see a new one in my future. I think I'll bu another Tefal but it's always good to know where to find another good iron.

Sherri – I appreciate your post today. I was in the market for a new iron, spent $200+ (!!!) on a new one and am not happy with it. I will try the current a while longer but I suspect a new iron in my near future and will take a good look at this one. Thank you!

I have been waiting for this iron, forever. I had a pending order. The gal from Reliable called to tell me it would ship out in a couple of days..I don't think she understood my squeal of delight. Got it, and I love it! Just don't ever let it run out of water!

Thanks for posting this!!! I have been looking for a better iron and "they say these don't spit or sputter" Mine does that all the time and I have had it scorch fabric before so I think it is getting hotter than I need.
I went ahead and ordered one. Now I can't wait to get it.

You will have to let us know how it is working a year from now. I bought the Velocity 200 previous version and it stopped working. They were awesome and let me send it in after the warranty was up as long as I paid shipping. I paid the $40 shipping, worked great and a week later was dead again. Now I just want to cry at the wasted money, but it worked great when it was working.

I would love to know if it stands up over time! I've heard many great things so far!
