Sewing more scrappy quilts was one of my quilting goals this year. Making more charity quilts was another goal. So, I was excited when I read this post and realized I could do some scrappy sewing and help someone out at the same time! (I used this block pattern to make my scrappy block).
Just the other day these wonderful scraps arrived from Peg and Becca at Sew Fresh Fabrics. I was so excited to see the solid lime piece–I’ve been wanting to sew with more colored solids, too! You can tell that I added in a few of my own scraps to make this block and didn’t use every fabric sent…I have plenty of fabric to make another block to send and will be making that today! Thanks so much Peg and Becca for organizing such a fun sew-a-long! One thing that really helped as I put this block together was the fact that I have a box of 2 ½″ squares…it was so easy to pull a few to add into the “mix” of this quilt! I really need to remember to add in more squares from every project I make!
Something else to help me with my “sew scrappy” goals this year arrived in the mail this week, too. It’s Kim Brackett’s new book Scrap-Basket Sensations: More Great Quilts from 2 ½″ Strips–and it came from Kim herself! (Her first book, Scrap-Basket Surprises: 18 Quilts from 2-½ inch Strips (That Patchwork Place) is also one of my favorites).Of course I want to make the cover quilt from Scrap-Basket Sensations, “Picnic,” right away
and have already started collecting fabrics for it. There are so many wonderful projects included in this book, and the quilts work well with any fabrics–from traditional to modern.
Okay…that’s all for now…I have some pattern editing to do today! Have a wonderful day!

I love those greens they're so bright and cheerful! I need to get a bit more capable with my basics before I'm comfortable making quilts to give to others, but it will happen.
