I’m home from a whirlwind trip to Portland, Oregon for the Spring 2013 International Quilt Market! Portland is a beautiful city, and I truly appreciated the cool temperatures, cloudy skies, and light rains. I have quite a lot of photos, so I’ll break it up into a few posts. Today’s post will focus on Day One and some of the quilts I pieced for market.
I was lucky to be able to have a mini “tour” of a couple of places before heading to the Oregon Convention Center on Wednesday. I had a really early flight and was running on less than 3 hours sleep, so I didn’t take near enough photos on day one; however, I did get one snapshot of the outside of Hollyhill Quilt Shoppe. Unfortunately, the shop doesn’t allow photos inside, but can I just say it was THE most amazing shop–especially if you love all things Moda as I do! The displays were absolutely incredible, and there were so many fabrics; I was in heaven before even arriving at market!
I also got a chance to drive by the Portland Temple which is absolutely stunning in its setting in the trees. There was a soft drizzle, but everything was green and beautiful! After a yummy lunch at Red Lobster it was off to the Convention Center. I was grateful to have a good lunch since it was about the only food I had that day! And I have to say thank you to Jodi for the wonderful tour! Once at the Convention Center I set to work helping Camille with her booth. Of course I’d never set up a booth before, so she had to give me lots of guidance, but it was truly rewarding to see everything come together.
This is the view of the Moda section I saw the most. The leaves were absolutely beautiful–all 19,123 of them! I took so many photos of the beautiful Moda designer booths that I’ll dedicate a separate post to them tomorrow.
I spent most of my time with these two amazing girls…from left to right Jodi, Camille, and yours truly.
Here is Bonnie’s side of the Bonnie & Camille booth…such beautiful quilts!
And here is Camille’s side of the booth. (I have to say it was wonderful to have homemade cookies made by Jodi stashed away in the top drawer of the dresser)!
Joanna and I in front of the Cherry Pie quilt I pieced for her. If you have everything cut out this quilt can easily go together in a day.
Joanna’s quilter, Diana created beautiful oval feather wreaths on this quilt.
And here is some more lovely Fig Tree goodness. I pieced the Painted Ladies (butterfly) quilt above. It is absolutely the cutest butterfly block I have ever seen. I can’t wait to remake this for me!
Another quilt I pieced for Joanna was this beautiful basket quilt. This is another favorite of mine. The quilt involves a lot of bias edges, but it went together well.
I didn’t piece this quilt…but I can’t wait to make it. I believe it’s a jelly roll project.
And finally, I wanted to share a little of Lori Holt’s section since I pieced one of her quilts. Her Bake Sale collection for Riley Blake was featured at market. Lori has lots of cute new patterns for quilts and accessories.
I can’t end this market post without saying that even though the quilts and the fabrics at market are wonderful and beautiful, it really is the people that make it so much fun. I met so many wonderful people at this market. I love seeing what part of the country everyone is from, so I’m constantly searching for the cities on nametags. It’s wonderul to meet and get to talk to other people who all love fabric and quilts in the same sense that I do. So thank you everyone! I’ll be back tomorrow with more to share and with some fun market giveaways! Thanks so much for stopping by!
PS Paper patterns for my Cross Roads quilt are now available in my Etsy shop.

What a great adventure! So fun to see you with Jodi! And I didn't know you made samples for Lori's Bake Sale line. Love the tulips. It made me think of the tulip row in her Row Along.

So nice meeting you! Standing in line at Sample Spree was fun because I got to meet and talk to so many different people. I went to Holly Hill too. I used to live within walking distance of a sweet little quilt shop (Country Dry Goods) that used to be there in a lovely old strip of buildings before it was torn down for "new." Bummer about that. Things do change. I miss Oregon.

You're so adorable! It was so fun to see you again, but I'm sorry we didn't make it to your book signing. By that time we were at the total opposite end of the hard with very sore feet – and then we didn't come back the next day.
We went to Holly Hill too, and on the way back stumbled upon a roadside sign pointing to the temple so we made a little visit. It was so beautiful – especially with a cute bride and groom out front taking pictures!

I enjoyed seeing your photos. I agree…from my one trip to Market, I would say it's the people that really make it fun. Hope you had a great time!

Great photos from Market Sherri! I "know" so many more people now than I did the only time I attended that I'm sure it would be like you said – great to meet everyone. Painted Ladies looks amazing.

Thanks for the post on Quilt Market. I live in a suburb of Portland (I pass the Temple on my daily walk) so I'm glad you like my hometown! I will definitely have to find a way to attend Market the next time it comes to Portland. Looks like you had a wonderful time!

Oh, my! When do you ever sleep? It was fun to see the inventory of all the quilts you made, and to see them hanging in all the booths. The temple shot is beautiful–we weren't anywhere near there when we went up this past January (and missed this fabric shop!)
