So many things on my “to do” list this week–and the next–and the next– and so on. But the simplicity of one single project–the ease of a “one-flower Wednesday–” seems to have given me just what I needed to prioritize, slow down, and enjoy creating. My favorite quote this week is from Leonardo da Vinci–“Simplicity is the ultimate sophistication.” I think “one flower Wednesday” fits the bill! How do you slow down and simplify?
Darlene says
Slowing down & simplifying is very important to me. Burning the candle at both ends caused lots of stress a few years ago and wreaked havoc with my health!
I find that any kind of handwork helps me slowdown and enjoy the journey.

and I love the one flower you did on Wednesday…..smile.

Just sitting and looking at the photo of your hexie flower is a good way to slow down for me! It's so pretty Sherri.

I slow down by looking at pretty things- like your flower. I love to see what women create.
The garden also…God teaches me renewal in the garden.
Lovely post.

Glad you took some time to renew…will be looking forward all your new projects.

A little fun sewing is always welcome when life gets hectic for me. 🙂 And I love to embroider, read, crochet~ LOL I never lack for 'entertainment'! 🙂

A fun flower Sherri!
Hand piecing, hand quilting and stitchery help slow me down.
Little Lady Patchwork says
Hi Sherri!
First of all —-I love that fabric!
Second— Always keep it simple! Simple is best.
I hope your "to-do" list turns into a "done/finished" list :0)
XOXO,

Someday I would love to try a hexie. Especially if I can make it look like yours! Right now I am just hoping to finish something to send my Mom in Armenia for Christmas. So I need to send it soon!

This flower is so pretty – love it! To slow down, I love to work on a spontaneous project that wasn't on my list, just to enjoy the process of making it up as I go without any pressure. Practicing my drawing or reading a book also help me slow down. Enjoy those moments!
Vivian says
Love your unique hexagon flower. It makes me smile.
Hand sewing is a relatively new process for me, and it quickly became my #1 way to slow down and relax and gather my thoughts. My #2 way is to grab a stack of my quilting magazines or books, put up my feet, and wander through the pages.
Jan Hatchett says
Your flower makes me happy!
As for me, necessity forced me to begin to hand piece (sewing machine died a horrible death), but I am finding it very relaxing. It forces me to focus on one thing at a time and slows me down a bit.
How funny that I didn't want to start doing this, but it has helped me to slow down and simplify a bit!

love it!!!!

Such a pretty Flower! To slow down I make jam! Honestly, it's that reconnecting with 'home' or go to my allotment and tend the land! My own 'to do' list is pretty heavy too 🙂 Good lcuk!
Madame Samm says
I am all for taking time to MAKE the flowers..lol This one is perfect Sherri. Great question. We moved to the country, there is something sew intoxicating about no grid lock, no line ups, I can go to the grocery store, shop, talk to some of the locals..( which I am now) lol. and be back in my humble abode in 14 minutes flat. This was one of the best things we have ever done..oh and we went from 8,000 sq feet to 1300 sq feet…I have plenty of time now…to quilt, stitch and visit lol…

Sitting and doing NOTHING sometimes, helps me slow down, re-gather my resources and tackle my seemingly endless "to-do" list!
Miriam says
Very pretty flower.
I slow down with hand sewing.
Thelma says
What wonderful suggestions….I keep a To Do List. Some folks find having a list stressful, but by having a list, I feel organized and in control.
I need to start doing one hexie a day, that would add up to a couple of flowers a month. I need to move my hexie project bag to my nightstand.
Stephanie says
You now I love your FMF hexagon. Simply pretty.
Nedra says
I am teaching a GFG next week and I love your fabric choices. Your flower would make a great sample of other options.

Sewing is my sanity saver of the day! –unless it is sewing orders, then I still need to sew something just for fun, just 15 minutes a day or I go bonkers!
Love your busy little flower!

Slow down with friends! I'm having my own personal sewing retreat in my basement all day Saturday, and have invited any friends who want to join me to come on over. Fun time; use-up-fabric time; friendships time. It's perfect.

I love your flower, and I agree with slowing down and enjoying the process.

It's kind of rewarding to see how these small moments of hand stitching add up to quite a treasure. I find it a little hard to put down once I start. A hand pieced project like these little hexies are like a friend just waiting for you. Your garden is really growing beautifully!
Sinta Renee says
I like a slow start… at this time of year especially, I enjoy sitting outside (even if I have to have a quilt around me) and drink my tea in the morning!

Sherri – I hope you are really able to slow down…not refilling your batteries can be dangerous!
I love that quote, too & had to smile when I discovered that it was included in Camille's book :).
I love your flower – your stitches are invisible! Even better that you enjoyed the process.
I have to admit that I don't know how to simplify and slow down…so I'm looking forward to some helpful hints…
Hugs, Julia

I love these flowers. You are the one that got me to try the hexagon thing from you're blog. And I have to say I'm hooked! Thanks so much!

Your hexagon flower is lovely! How do you get it so perfect?! Slowing down for me usually means reading a book. I have been doing a little bit of handwork lately as well.
Auntie K says
Great idea! Sewing is a retreat from my busy world, and I appreciate the idea of your "one flower Wednesday". Thanks!
Carolyn says
What a nice idea. I just found your blog looking around quilting blogs. I love this post, cuz I decided to start making some hexagon flowers… then I decided I HAD to make a quilt using hexagon flower blocks… and I want it to be a queen sized quilt for my bed! I'm crazy – because this will be my first quilt! So, anyways… I have 14 more to go before I think I can add sashing in order to space my blocks out enough and piece the quilt top. (Oh and did I mention that I have no idea how I plan on quilting this thing?!)
Sorry to ramble on as some random commenter! Your quilts are beautiful! I'll have to add your blog to my reader.
