Happy Friday! I have several fun things to talk about today…so be sure to keep reading! First of all, I finished my “On a Whim” quilt (pattern by Camille Roskelley). I really did start this quilt on a whim, so the pattern is appropriately named! I decided to use 20 different fabrics instead of the 10 the pattern called for, and it seemed like a perfect way to use up my Anna Maria Horner fabrics (some I’d been hoarding saving for years). I used Moda Bella white (9900 97) for my white and the grey dot from Happy Go Lucky for the contrast background. You know, for some reason this was just a really fun finish. Even though you enjoy the process and watch a quilt coming together over the period of time you’re working on it, there is just nothing like finishing up and ironing that final border!
I had purchased one of my favorite AMH prints from the Lou Louthi collection for the backing and think I’ll use the orange feather print for binding. I hope I haven’t over-grammed or over-blogged this quilt, but it is truly a favorite.
Thanks so much for the wonderful response to Simply Small Sewing, too! It did take quite a bit of time to send out those emails, and I appreciate all of the kind comments and thank you’s. To think I thought I’d be emailing only about 50 people! I’ve sent out all the free patterns now, and if you didn’t get one, it means I wasn’t able to contact you through your comment (your comment account is set up as “no reply”). The patterns are available in my Craftsy shop for download, though. And, I have already received a couple of photos of table runners that have already been made. Thanks so very much for the support! I’m already planning next month’s project, too! In fact, if you love 2 ½″ squares as I do, you might want to hop over to the Moda Cutting Table blog for another 2 ½″ square post I’ve got over there today. (But be sure to come back here to finish reading this post).
And…I’m happy to announce that I’ll be teaching at the Small Town Quilt Show this summer at the Zermat resort! I’m so honored to be teaching–when you see the other teachers you’ll know why–Natalia and Kathleen have assembled a phenomenal group of teachers, and yes, I think I want to take just about every class!
And, here is what I’ll be teaching. First up is a class for my Hexagon bag, first published in American Patchwork & Quilting and also published in my first book A Quilting Life: Creating a Handmade Home
. I always enjoy teaching this bag as a class–it’s a terrific bag that even a beginner sewer/quilter can finish up in a day. The hexagons are machine sewn, and I’ve also made some terrific updates and additions to the pattern, so you have a few more choices as far as interior pockets and handle construction.
I’m also doing a fun lecture on my upcoming book Fresh Family Traditions: 18 Heirloom Quilts for a New Generation
(it will be out by the date of the retreat). I’ll be sharing the book quilts, some of my family quilts (which were the inspiration for the book) and will also be talking about finding inspiration for your quilting. Registration opens TODAY at 8 a.m Mountain Standard Time. Go here for all of the information and details!
Okay…well that’s all of my news for today…thanks so much for stopping by, and I hope you have a wonderful weekend!

Really a fun post with lots of great things, especially the quilt finish! And no, you didn't over gram–I love looking at quilts on IG (much preferred to cat pictures. . . sorry, if you are a cat picture poster person).
Fun to read about Zermat, and also to see the cover of your new book. I'll keep at eye out for the release date!
Congrats again on your finish–
