With my determination to work on “works in progress” this summer, I decided to do some Farmer’s Wife blocks the other day. Sometimes you just can’t stop at a couple!
I used scraps from Tapestry for this group of blocks. One of my favorite things about this quilt is that I haven’t bought any fabric for it at all…and it’s going to be a really big quilt!
Block 96, Tulip…I heart this block. I wasn’t sure about my color choices in the beginning; I nervously followed the placement found in the book, and in the end I really liked how it turned out.
Block 79, Silver Lane–with this one I kind of wish I had chosen a different color for the pinwheels in the center. Again I followed the color guide from the book, but this time I wish I had done something a little different.
Block 108, Windmill–cute as can be…for sure! I used templates for this one. I’m really trying to stay away from the templates, but this one was fast and simple to make!
Block 75, Rosebud…maybe my favorite of this group. It’s simple and sophisticated…love this block!
I also made a group of blocks using California Girl scraps…I was getting nervous about using too many of my Tapestry scraps!
Block 91, Strawberry Basket…this one is my favorite of this bunch!
Block 85, Square Dance…a little too “busy” for me…think I should have used a solid fabric instead of the yellow print.
Block 44, Gentleman’s Fancy…I like this one as well. I knew I wanted both outer fabrics to be blues and played around with a lot of different center fabrics before deciding on this one!
Block 76, Sawtooth…this is from some older Fig Tree fabrics…not sure which line since I couldn’t find any pieces with selvedges, but I think they might be from Allspice Tapestry. This one was simple…I found a pattern for it (without templates) in one of my block books.
So…I counted up my blocks, and I have 80 now. I only have 31 to go…that sounds completely doable! I didn’t really realize when I started this quilt how big the project really was…it just goes to show that if you work on something a little bit at a time it will eventually get finished!
I’m hoping to start setting my other version (made with the Christmas fabrics) together this week, too. It will be a nice-sized lap quilt.
Thanks so much for stopping by…have a terrific day!
