Hello, friends! We’re getting ready to wrap up the 2025 Block of the Month sew along with the final block and the finishing instructions available next Monday, December 1st. Today, though, I’m sharing details about my A Quilting Life 2026 Block of the Month sew along. I will be sharing a brand-new Block of the Month quilt along beginning on Monday, January 5th. Today’s post will share everything you need to know to be ready for the January quilt-along.

A Quilting Life 2026 Block of the Month
Quilt + Block Details
As in year’s past, this year’s quilt along will be a free mystery block of the month program. This means that I will not be sharing pictures of the blocks or the finished quilt at the beginning. Here are some of the basics for the 2026 sew along with a few details on fabrics I’ll be using:
- This year’s blocks will feature 12″ finished blocks only. The finished quilt will measure approximately 57 ½″ x 72 ½″.
- The blocks are mostly in the “confident beginner” range. I’ll share video tips and tutorials for anything that might be a little more challenging. All of the blocks are machine-pieced (no applique’).
- There will be a setting for the quilt provided in early December 2026. I will also have some fun bonus projects to share with you along the way.
- This year block patterns and videos will be available on the first Monday of each month here on the blog. I will also post a video that day on our YouTube channel where I’ll go into more detail about the month’s block and share tips and any needed details.
- I will be making my quilt using a variety of red and navy prints from our earlier collections, including Raspberry Summer, Delightfully Yours, and earlier groups. (I’m really looking forward to using this color combination as we will be celebrating the250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence in 2026).
- I will have also some scrappy starter fabric bundles available in the shop in early December. (I’ll let my newsletter subscribers know when these are available–sign up below if you don’t already receive my Sunday updates in your email inbox).
- I’m also sewing along with the tone on tone print from Delightfully Yours as my background fabric. Moda Bella 9900-200 is also a great background option if you are mixing red and navy prints from a variety of our fabric collections.
- The best way to stay informed about all things Block of the Month is to sign up for my newsletter. This newsletter goes out just once each weekend and provides details on the previous week’s posts and videos along with a preview of the upcoming week and any special sales or discounts I have at that time.

Reminders for 2025
Finally, just a reminder for those of you who have sewn along in 2025. Be sure to download all of the PDF’s you need before the end of the year. At that time, I’ll remove the files in order to make room in my digital file storage for the new year’s blocks.
- Go here for the Block of the Month landing page with links to all of the monthly posts. You can download each month’s PDF pattern file from the corresponding post.
- Find previous year Block of the Month pattern files in my shop here.
Happy quilting, and I can’t wait to see you on January 5, 2026, when we begin sewing the A Quilting Life 2026 Block of the Month.
Happy quilting!

LINDA A PARKINSON says
I love the new color ways! Looking forward to seeing more. Thanks
Patricia says
Just participated in the 2025 BOM and sure enjoyed doing a single block each month and watching it all come together. Looking forward to 2026!
Cathy says
This was my first year of quilting in earnest. Having sewn for decades, I figured I
knew it all and overdid the quilt/sew alongs this year. It was still good because it gave me a chance to learn–surprise,
I did not know it all– and I gotg a feel for what I like. Your block of the month has been my favorite. Looking forward to it
Jan says
Love the idea of using patriotic fabric in honor of our nation’s 250th celebrations. I have a ton of those colors in my stash.
Thank you, as always, Sherri for providing a BOM each yr. I recognize the work that it requires!!!
Judy says
It’s difficult for me to imagine a two color quilt with the fabrics I have. I want to join but will wait for the first block. I do have a flannel bundle I may consider. Thanks Sherri. I’m looking forward to January.
sherri McConnell says
You can definitely use multiple colors. I’m just going to use mostly reds and navy prints. I’ll also have some light blue in my quilt. This pattern is very versatile 🙂
Hilary says
Looks like a great project. My BOM quilts are among my favorites. Will this work with colors other than red and navy? I have some fabric I would like to use up.
sherri McConnell says
Absolutely–you can use any group of fabrics you want and it will be beautiful!
Genia says
Love the idea of this color combination! Can this pattern be easily adapted to make a queen sized quilt?
sherri McConnell says
absolutely!
Kathryn Trask says
Sounds fascinating, I see from the comments it works with other colours which is good to know. Our flag colours are red, white and blue and our national colour is black! We love that! Sounds odd though.
I’ll probably use a multitude of colours.
Hope you enjoy your Thanksgiving with your son.
Lynn L Young says
Red and blue sounds like fun!
I always look forward to the New Year and starting your block of the month quiltalong!
Linda J Andersen says
A lady on facebook showed her completed quilt and said she received her last block info last Monday! How can that be?
Also, I never get the emails, I’ve signed up a few times, and I have checked spam.
thank you,
linda
Maria says
Will the scrappy fabric bundles you put in your shop have all the necessary reds and blues for this quilt along?
sherri McConnell says
Yes, and they will be ready next week. Thank you!
Pamelia Wimberly says
Dear Sherry, Chelsea, and Billy, thanks so much for all you do for your sewing fans and video fans! I am so excited to be finishing the 2025 Mystery BOM. I have been battling breast cancer for the second time since March of 2024. I finally finished with wound care this October and caught up with a couple of the blocks I had gotten behind on. I always look forward to your videos, fabric, and patterns. I can’t always get all of them, but I give it a hearty try. Well, I am about to get busy cutting and sewing! I hope you all have a wonderful holiday season! Get plenty of rest! 2026 is coming soon! Thank you again! Pamelia Wimberly
sherri McConnell says
Thank you so much for your kind message! Wishing you the best for 2026!
Melissa says
So excited
I will be using patriotic colors also. Maybe I will make a second one in red and green. I have been making your BOM for many years and never disappointed. I can’t believe another year has gone by. Thanks for all you do
Carol says
I saw the fabric requirements, but I’m wondering if 10″ layer cakes can be made to work, or will any of the pieces be too big for that? ? I have a few of those already.
I have really enjoyed this year’s project! Thank you!
sherri McConnell says
You would definitely need more than one Layer Cake…but I think you might be able to do that if you are willing to be quite scrappy within your blocks…
Claudette McD says
Ive never participated in a BOM. Looking forward to it, and love your work!
