Scrappy Quilt & New Notions

Hello and happy Monday! My weekend was kind of a roller coaster.  I had two quilts with upcoming deadlines that had to be finished...and I stayed up way too late several nights in a row getting them done.  But now that they're finished and off to the quilter I'm breathing a little easier.  And...I get to share new patterns and fabric with you soon!

Next up on my list is to make a couple of baby quilts for a new little guy that

will be joining our family this summer.  I had some lovely blue and brown fat quarters from Lily and Will and another early Anne Sutton collection that have been just sitting on my shelf for a couple of years.  I wanted a simple pattern to show off the fabrics, something that didn't require a lot of thinking, and something that would go together quickly.

So I ordered the new Fat Quarter Friday pattern by my friend Alison of Cluck Cluck Sew and found out when it arrived that there are actually two different scrappy patterns included--both in several sizes. One design features strips while the other features squares.  In no time at all I had all of my strips cut and the blocks pieced that I need for the baby quilt.  I plan on using a cream minky fabric for the backing of this one and will probably do a scrappy binding with a few of the fat quarters I didn't use for the blocks.  I'll share this one when it's put together and quilted!

Oh, and it's going to be a companion quilt for this one that I started in January for the same little guy.  This quilt is pieced from the Pure collection by Sweetwater (also from a few years back), and even though the blues are just a little different, the browns look great together!  So hopefully I can get backings ready and send them off to be quilted soon!

I've received a couple of Quilty Box shipments that I haven't yet had time to post about...and they both came with some really fun products and a couple of new-to-me notions. The fabrics included with Quilty Box shipments are generally more modern and less traditional with terrific solids.  And, there is usually a coordinating spool of Aurifil thread which helps me build my collection. The February box included the Sidekick ruler--a ruler that cuts diamonds, 60 degree triangles, and half triangles in four different sizes.  I'm excited to try this one...and there is a pattern included as well that uses the ruler! Ten Kona Solid prints were included in this box along with the style book that comes with each shipment.

The March box came with a Terrarium fat quarter bundle(fabric by Elizabeth Hartman for Robert Kaufman), a spool of Aurifil, and three notions.  That Purple Thang is a tool I've used for years when making pincushions and bags--it's helpful for pulling and pushing fabrics.  I'm happy to have a second one to put in my travel bag.  There was also a package of Glow-Line tape by Omnigrid which is perfect for highlighting lines and shapes on rulers to make cutting easier.  Finally, the box came with a container of ToolTron Machine Oil which I've already used.  I love the storage container it comes in as well!

If you love modern fabrics and trying new notions you can sign up here for a Quilty Box

Congrats on the upcoming family addition. I only have one grandchild-a little guy too- and have made him several projects more recent with the HOWDY line of fabric. I did purchase some minky from MSQC and plan on making Byron ANOTHER blanket :) I have never subscribed to the "mail order surprise box" that people get, but maybe when i (ever) get caught up i will give it a try. The baby blanket will be beautiful-can't wait to see it finished. :)

I just bought that scrappy fat quarter Friday pattern from and have it all cut out. It went so quickly! I cut one of each as well. I love how you get so many options in that one pattern. Your fabric choices are wonderful - blue and brown are great!

Lovely fabrics for the cute baby quilts you are making. Always fun receiving boxes of goodies in the mail - lovely items - enjoy! Beautiful spring fabric pic! Our Winters here don't like to let go - so our Springs are usually short, but I'm so looking forward to all the spring flowers bursting forth, as soon as it warms up!
