Happy Monday! Today I’m posting as part of the Fat Quarter Shop Cake Mix Quilt Book blog tour! This has been my first time sewing with a Cake Mix Recipe set; it’s definitely an easy way to make a quilt!
I’m making the Creme’ Brulee quilt which requires a Layer Cake, a solid Layer
Cake, Cake Mix Recipe card set 3, and the Cake Mix Quilt Book, Volume One. This quilt book contains patterns for 16 different quilt designs using the Moda Cake Mix Recipe Cards from Miss Rosie’s Quilt Company; using Layer Cakes makes these quilt especially fast, but you can also cut 10″ x 10″ squares from your stash to use with these designs.
I decided to go with reds and greens (because Christmas quilts are all I seem to be sewing these days). I’ve used reds and greens from my stash…these are from Bonnie & Camille collections and the Moda Dottie fabric in Summer Lime.
Basically, you use the Cake Mix papers to make half-square triangles and then follow the diagrams to put the blocks together. Shortening your stitch length to 12 stitches per inch makes it easier to remove the paper when finished with all of the sewing from a sheet. I’ll be sharing progress on this throughout the rest of the month!
My quilt has 36 blocks, and I’ll be making 18 in red and 18 in green. I think it’s going to be a super fun quilt! Be sure to follow along the Jolly Jabber blog each Monday as a different Cake Mix quilt is highlighted!
And…beginning today the Fat Quarter Shop Countdown to Christmas promotion begins with new sales every day from today through December 23rd. Shop the big Christmas deals here!
Thanks so much for stopping by!
