My Scrappy Quilt Sew Along Finish

Happy Monday! I finished my scrappy sew along quilt! I was off to a great start on this quilt earlier this summer...but my sewing was interrupted by the sewing of six new quilts and a fun teaching trip.  So as soon as the last new pattern quilt was off the the quilter, I knew I was going to work on finishing up this project!

This was one of those quilts that just sort of came my way...and since it used

up so many scraps I could hardly wait to finish it up (although my scrap bins really don't look any smaller...how does that always happen?). An amazing quilter who has inspired me over the last decade or so calls these quilts made entirely from your stash and scraps "free quilts," and I've taken to calling them the same thing!

Most of the dark fabrics are left overs from the spring market sewing I did from the Fig Tree collection Hazel + Plum, but the lights come from a variety of Fig Tree collections...including some of the earliest ones!

I think this quilt has a fall feeling to it...and I'm definitely ready for some fall weather around here!  I can hardly wait to get out the fall quilts and add this one to the mix!

I just need to stitch up a backing (which will also be from my stash) and get this off to be quilted!

Not only did I have a great time finishing up my grandmother's version of this quilt, but I also really enjoyed making my own quilt using scraps.  If this is your first time seeing a post about this quilt...you can go here for links to all of the previous posts on this project including the directions for making your own scrappy quilt!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

And a gorgeous finish your free quilt is! Who doesn't like something for 'free'? I'm not sure why this didn't really resonate with me when you started, perhaps I was too busy. Clearly, I need to get myself busy working on one of these beauties for me. Thanks for sharing both the details and the inspiring photos.

I am in love with this quilt! Simple piecing when broken down into sections, yet looks more complicated! And I have plenty of Fig Tree to make a similarly-looking beauty!!

Hi Sherri - your scrappy quilt is just beautiful as I love Fig Tree fabrics - I'm making one in same colors myself - thanks, Bev

It looks super! I need time off from decorating and start this - I'm so behind as I wanted to start it weeks ago! I got as far as selecting fabric, so almost there! ;)

I sorta feel that scrap quilts are freebies. I know lots of work go into them. I hate to see someone put a huge price on a rather simple quilt and say it's scrap quilt when the scraps are truly scraps that could not go into any other kind of quilt and the fabric is not a special, special fabric. I hope you know what I mean. I've seen a rather ordinary baby quilt priced at $400 and it's nothing special. To me, that overkill. Many of us who do not have stashes built, even buy fabric to make quilts for charity and just the thrill of helping someone is payment deluxe. I dnn't know the person's reasons for pricing - maybe the person needs that for surviving. If so, I pray the quilt sells. Thank you for sharing. Fig Tree has some beautiful fabrics and designs.

It's a beautiful finish! I look forward to seeing it quilted.

I love the idea of the "free quilts" so who is the source of that lovely idea?
