Scrappy Quilt Sew Along Part 3

Happy Friday!Welcome to part three of the Scrappy Quilt Sew Along!  I'm having a lot of fun making these blocks, and I hope you are too!  While I've been using mostly scraps from the upcoming Fig Tree collection Hazel & Plum for the blocks, I've been using any light-colored Fig Tree scraps I can find for the backgrounds.

Whether you've been quilting along or if this is your first time learning about

the quilt along, you can go here to see the part one of the instructions, and here for the second part of the instructions!

This week's assignment (and final group of blocks to make) is to make 71 scrappy quarter-square triangles.  The pattern in the quilt will show up much better if you make sure to have definite "lights" and "darks" in these blocks.  Although I'm using low-volume prints for most of my lights, I've made sure that there is good contrast between the lights and darks.

To make these blocks you'll need:
  • 36 dark print squares 7 1/2" x 7 1/2"
  • 36 light print squares 7 1/2" x 7 1/2"
This will actually make 72 you'll have one extra!  I have a tutorial already here on the blog for exactly how to make these...go here for the quarter square triangle tutorial!

I made 16 blocks pretty quickly the other day...I plan to finish them up in the next couple of days!

Come back next Friday for the quilt layout instructions...and to see some other versions of this fun quilt (yes, one of my blog readers knew the whole history of this scrappy project, and I'll be sharing her post along with the quilt reveal next week)!

Happy quilting...and thanks so much for stopping by!

thanks for the latest stage on this quilt, will now check my stash and see what I can come up with. Bit concerned with QSTs as I think they have bias edges to them or does your way of making them get rid of that?

Rosa, you'll need to cut your squares 7 1/2" square to make the QSTs. 36 light and 36 dark. Put one light and one dark together to make HSTs. Then use the HSTs to make the QSTs. The QSTs will end up being 6 1/2" unfinished so they match the squares and nine patch blocks.

Margaret, the QSTs won't have bias edges when made by Sherri's instructions.

I can't wait to see the final layout on this. I love scrappy!
