Quilted Pincushions

Hello and happy Monday!  I can't believe it's the last day of July...really...August already?!  I got a lot of secret sewing finished up this weekend, but I also made a little time to finish up some fun little pincushions I'd started earlier this month.

Carrie Nelson and Amanda Jean of Crazy Mom Quilts have both challenged

themselves to make a pincushion a day during the month of July. They've both kept up with the challenge, and Carrie sometimes makes two or three in a day! Her pincushions have been so inspiring that I knew I had to make at least a couple (maybe next July I'll be able to make one a day)!

So I gathered up my Creekside scraps, and one of Carrie's pincushion patterns, Morsel, and set to having some fun! Carrie's instructions for this particular pincushion give you the patchwork needed for of course I made two!

Since I gifted all of the pincushions I made from my own recent pincushion tutorial, I also decided I needed one for me with Creekside scraps! You can find all of the instructions and the video tutorial to make this pincushion here.

This pincushion is really a great size for travel...not too big, and not too small!  I'm going to add it to my travel sewing bag!

I love the look of quilting on the front of the pincushions (I line the front with fusible fleece before quilting--you could also use a batting scrap) and I really like to use wool, felt, or canvas for the pincushion makes them sturdier. I fill my pincushions with crushed walnut shells that I purchase at the pet food store (I'm pretty sure I've picked up most of these tips from Carrie Nelson over the years...her pincushions are really amazing).

Currently I use my Morsel pincushion I made with Fig Tree Avalon fabrics while at my sewing machine and my pincushion from Anna Graham's book while at my cutting table.

One of my most treasured pincushions is this watermelon pincushion made by Carrie herself.  It hosts some of my decorative pins and is always on the shelf near where I sew.

I also love this cute pineapple pincushion that was gifted to me earlier this year!

These pincushions were so much fun...I might have to make some more before next July.  If you are looking for some more pincushion can see some beautiful ones and get the download for Carrie's Sweet Liberty Tuffets pincushions here.

Happy Sewing, and thanks so much for stopping by!

Your pincushions are so cute! I loved Carrie's daily pincushion show and always made one but still need to fill it.
