Scrappy Quilt Sew Along Part 2

Hello and happy Friday! Welcome to part two of the Scrappy Patchwork Quilt Sew Along!

As usual I had a hard time deciding on fabrics.  There are many possibilities for a scrappy quilt like this: holiday prints, completely scrappy, scrappy in a certain color way.  I even thought about using a fat eighth bundle I have on the shelf...all of these ideas would work perfectly!

But in the end I was cleaning up in the sewing room and happened upon a pile

of left over Fig Tree fabrics from some spring market sewing I did with the upcoming Hazel & Plum collection.

I had some pretty good sized scraps and hadn't decided on a project yet, so it seemed like the perfect project!

Step one for making this scrappy quilt was to cut 57 squares which all measure 6 1/2" x 6 1/2" from a variety of light, medium, and dark prints.  I actually cut 60 which will give me a couple of extras to play with when I lay out my blocks.  I used 30 different prints and cut two from each.

Step two (this week's project) is to make 15 scrappy 9-patch blocks that measure 6 1/2" x 6 1/2". Yesterday I did a quick tutorial for making these blocks.

If you are going to use the scrappy strip-pieced method I shared in the tutorial you will need 45 strips 2 1/2" wide by at least 8" long.  This will give you enough strips to make all 15 blocks. If you sew your strips into 15 sets of three strips each you can then mix and match segments for an even scrappier look.  Of course you can also use 2 1/2" x 2 1/2" squares to make your blocks if you have a collection of those you want to use!

We have one more set of blocks to make for this quilt...and I'll share the information for those next Friday!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

PS--if you missed part one of this series, you can find it here

And...did you know that Craftsy classes are all under $20 now through July 4th...go here to take a look.

Your fabrics and blocks look good together!
I have a few questions for you:
1. How big will your quilt be when it's finished?
2. About your Creekside fabric: in the Market photos it looked like you had some yellows in your collection but you said on IG there's no yellow in it. Which colors are in the collection? It's sometimes hard to tell form pictures.
3. Is it okay if you send you a picture of my minis&more project this weekend? It's not finished yet (I'm sorry) but I'm hopefully it will be tomorrow or at latest on Sunday.
Have a wonderful weekend:-)

Hi! I'm piecing along with you and have just finished my nine patches. They look great with my scrappy blocks! I'm wondering how much more fabric I will need -- I don't keep a large stash (or I try not to, anyway!), so I may need to get some fat quarters if the rest of the blocks require more than a couple yards total.
