More Tips for Classes and Retreats

Hello and happy Thursday! As I mentioned yesterday, one of my works in progress needed a fast finish so I could use it this week!  I had read recently that  using a quilted table mat under your machine helps keep the machine from wobbling and/or vibrating when sewing on plastic tables like most of us sew on at retreats.

Since I'm headed to a retreat in a snowy area where it's forecast to be cloudy

most of the week, I decided to make a very spring-like table mat from my stash. I used quite a few older prints mixed in with some newer ones (some of these prints are more than 5 years old...proof that good things don't go out of style!  I used my Accuquilt Go! cutter to quickly cut some small tumblers.

I stitched them together to make a mat just a bit larger than my travel machine. I had fun using a backing and binding from my stash, too! If I have time before I go I might try to make a matching pin cushion...how cute would that be!

Last year I wrote a post with tips for attending classes and retreats. I've updated it a bit to include this table mat idea and a few other things I've thought of since then.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

I love the little mat what a great idea. You might want to attached a thread catcher to the long side of the mat so it hangs over the table edge and is easily accessed. A little piece of plastic tubing in a casing around the opening helps keeps it open. You can also attach it with velcro so it can be removed and empty with ease.

Sherri: if you went again to Bryce Canyon, where did you actually have the retreat? In the park? We visited there last October and loved it. What a great place for a retreat.

Cute mat, Sherri--I hope you have a great time. Every time I see that fold-up light I smile. It was because of your post that I bought my own as well as the little iron. It's a great post!

What a great idea. I love tumbler designs, last year it was my favourite way to make baby quilts for friends. x

I love this idea! We actually have a acrylic cutting board under the machine to easily move it around on the table, but this would be much more pretty. ~smile~ I love your blog!
