2016 Quilts in Review

Hello and Happy New Year! I always look forward to reviewing my creative year as a new one is on the horizon. In 2016 I made 25 quilts lap size to full size and 5 mini quilts. I also made a variety of table runners, place mats, pillows and bags! As I went through my photos I also realized I made a lot of quilt blocks that will soon be set into quilts, so I'll have some fun finishes early in 2017!

While I can't share some of my 2016 projects until is a little review of some of my favorites!

Early in 2016 I was able to finish up my Fig Tree red and green sampler quilt.

Favorites: Quilt Book, Notions & More!

Hello and happy Friday! This is actually one of my favorite times of the year--with the beginning of 2017 just around the corner I'm full of anticipation for projects that can be accomplished with a fresh start!

I have a few favorites to share today...beginning with a much anticipated book I received shortly before Christmas.

I could hardly wait to be able to browse the pages of Feed Sacks: The Colourful

Pineapple Mini Quilt

Hello! The other day I finally got a little time to work on something I've been wanting to make for the past year (or's been on the list for awhile)! A lot of quilters have been making pineapple quilts in one form or another over the last year or so, and I could hardly wait to make one of my own. I always try to sew something that's been on the list for awhile right after Christmas, so this year I decided I could at least make a pineapple mini in an afternoon!

I used some of my favorite yellows (and even got to add in three prints from our Desert Bloom collection).  I used low-volume prints for the backgrounds and picked some favorite greens for the stem.

I used cross-hatch quilting spaced 3/4" apart which added just the right amount of texture I think!

I found some perfect yellow polka dots in my stash (from the April Showers collection) for the backing...and finished it off with some Happy Go Lucky scallops on green.I really love this little quilt!  Sometimes you just need something to make that you can finish right away, and this was that project for me.

I'm doing a lot of organizing this week, so not too much sewing; this was just enough to help me not miss my machine too much! The only downside is that now I think I have to make a whole quilt with these blocks!

Block details: The block is made with 2 1/2" squares. I used the free pineapple block pattern from Instagram user @jackiepadeskyquilts which also includes cutting instructions and a layout for making a full quilt of pineapples.  You can scroll through her Instagram account to see her tutorial for making several at at time, or you can email her for the free pattern (her email is available on her Instagram as well).

Happy quilting and sewing...thanks so much for stopping by!

Merry Christmas!

Merry Christmas! I hope that you and your family, friends and loved ones will be able to celebrate together this wonderful season of light and life!

Every year I try not to get too caught up in the busyness of the season...I try instead to take some time to ponder and reflect on the Christmas miracle and how I can more fully keep the spirit of Christmas in my heart and in my life throughout the year.

It's kind of all summed up in this favorite video of mine from a couple of years ago...enjoy!

And Merry Christmas!

Christmas Sewing and More

Hello and happy Monday! I had a super fun week last week...but it sure was good getting home and being able to spend time with my family this weekend.  I left last Tuesday to fly to Texas where I was able to record some fun videos in the Fat Quarter Shop studios (more on this later).  After a four-plus hour flight delay in Phoenix coming home, I can't even begin to tell you how happy I was to land in Las Vegas very late Friday night!

(The wonderfully soft and warm blanket above is a favorite gift this year from

Best Organizing Books

Hello! Although I still have a few more Christmas posts to share, I thought I'd post about my favorite organizing books today. At the end of the year I always seem to start thinking about getting organized for the year to come...and these are some of the best tools I've found over the past year or so. They also make great Christmas gifts if you are looking for something for the book-lovers on your list.

My favorite all-time book for getting organized isn't what some would think of as

Christmas Table Runners

Hello and happy Monday! Today I thought I'd share my collection of Christmas table runners. I use these runners in a lot of different ways over the Christmas season--of course I use them to dress up my tables.  But I also use them as dresser scarves and buffet decor.

And this one is one of my favorites. The fabrics are from an older Kate Spain

Splendid Sampler Blocks Update

Hello and happy Thursday!  Can you believe it's the second week of December already? It seems like  I'll need to sew faster and faster to get everything finished up in time.

But while I've been working on a lot of projects with deadlines and a mix of Christmas sewing, I've also been sneaking in some "just for me blocks."  It's been nice to be able to take a break now and then and add to my Splendid Sampler collection.

I'm hoping to start setting this quilt together right after Christmas, so I've been

Quilted Christmas Ornament Tutorial

Hello and happy Monday! Today I'm happy to share a tutorial for a fun Christmas ornament project. Almost every year for about the last twenty years I've made some time of handmade ornament; this has become sort of a tradition, and is something I really look forward to. This year I decided I really wanted log cabin block ornaments since it's one of my favorite block patterns and is perfect for scrappy Christmas prints.

Gather your scraps and get ready for some fun!
