But while I've been working on a lot of projects with deadlines and a mix of Christmas sewing, I've also been sneaking in some "just for me blocks." It's been nice to be able to take a break now and then and add to my Splendid Sampler collection.
I'm hoping to start setting this quilt together right after Christmas, so I've been
adding to my pile now and then. In the past week I've added three fun blocks. One is a Splendid Sampler pattern, and two are blocks I've been wanting to make for this quilt using a couple of my favorite rulers.
First I made the "Minnesota Maze" which is Splendid Sampler block #83. Go here to get the free pattern (scroll down the page until you see the blocks in numerical order).
Next I made a Courthouse Steps block using the Creative Grids 6 inch Log Cabin Trim Tool Quilt Ruler Template. This is such a fun little ruler...you can make traditional log cabin style blocks or the Courthouse Steps style I made. Because you trim after adding every round of strips, your block will end up the perfect size.
I also made a block using the Creative Grids Pineapple Trim Tool Quilting Ruler. While I made a 6" finished block, this ruler will make 6", 8", and 10 finished blocks--making it really versatile!
I'm going to be making good use of these rulers after the holidays. I plan to get a lot of strips ready so I can sew rounds in between other projects.
I now have 42 of the 50 blocks I want to make. While I'll be making a few more of the free Splendid Sampler patterns, I also want to add in a few extras.
Happy quilting and sewing! Thanks so much for stopping by!
