Half Triangle Rectangles Ruler Review

Hello! Happy Tuesday (even if it is a bit later in the day)!  Today I'm going to talk a little bit about the half-rectangle triangle; this is a shape that has intrigued me for a bit, and I could hardly wait to have a little play time to work with it.

While working up my tutorial for my day on the Farmer's Wife Quilt Along later

this week, I realized that my assigned block included half-rectangle triangles...so out came the Bloc Loc Half-Rectangle Triange Ruler Set I purchased months ago!

I found the Bloc Loc ruler simple to use for these blocks. I bought the ruler set which gives cutting info for making HRT units in 14 different sizes from 3/4" x 1 1/2" up to 4" x 8" finished blocks.  For the Bloc Loc method you make slightly oversized HRT blocks and then use the Bloc Loc rulers for trimming them to the exact size. The Block Loc nests with the seam allowance so you can achieve perfect results. There are two rulers included so you can trim HRT's regardless of the direction of the seam.

I sewed these two finished HRT's together so you could see that at the bottom the point on the green/light HRT won't be cut off when sewing this unit--there is an ample 1/4" seam allowance available.

I thought it worked well to press the seams between blocks open.

My Farmer's Wife block was absolutely a breeze. The four Half Rectangle Triangle units turned out absolutely perfect which made this block one of the easiest yet!

I'm glad I finally had the time to work with this ruler; it's going to be a real time-saver, and I'm excited to see the design possibilities with this now easy-to-make block!

Note: this post was not sponsored in any way; I purchased the ruler because I was interested in trying it out.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

This is good to see and read how you liked it. I also bought one because I was curious, and had seen some quilts that tempted me. Now to find time to play!

Hmmmmm - I'll have to check out these rulers! I never seem to trim my HST's correctly. Your block is so pretty. Love this tulip design!

Wow, your block looks great! I remember that I paper-pieced mine because I couldn't work out the math and had to make this block twice. Perhaps I should buy this ruler.

I've been looking at the Bloc Loc rulers too. Maybe Santa will bring them to me.

Love your block and its clever HRT usage. As always, an inspiration.

your blocks look perfect! And the Bloc loc rulers are the best! I own several types and they sure help you be accurate!! They also sell great books that have so many quilt ideas in them for the specific rulers. Glad you like your ruler. The HST rulers are wonderful too!! I use mine frequently, seeing that HST's are used so often in quilts.
