Year in Review: Quilts

Hello! I hope you had a wonderful weekend! The last week of the year is when I typically post my "year in review" posts of projects. This year I made a good assortment of small items (mostly gifted) like bags, pillows, pincushions, place mats, table runners and table toppers; since a lot of these small projects live in other homes now, I had fun remembering them all when I went over my posts from the year.

Since I've already re-shared most of the smaller projects in my gift-giving ideas posts, I thought that for the year end wrap up I would just share the bigger quilts I finished this year. From my count I finished 20 quilts in 2015. Of course there are a few I can't share because they are waiting to be published in magazines and such, but here are the quilts of 2015.

First up is my Go Four It Quilt which was designed by Lissa Alexander and was one of the American Patchwork & Quilting Quilt Along quilts last year. I used all Fig Tree scraps from my stash for this one.

I actually started getting my scraps ready for this quilt at the end of 2014, but

More Quilted Bags

Happy Wednesday! It's getting down to the wire for gift making! I'm almost finished...I think (although I keep thinking of more things I could do)! But at some time I'll have to decide I'm done for this year...in the meantime, though,

I made a couple more of the Project Bags I shared a couple of weeks ago. This

Some Favorite Christmas Quilts

Happy Tuesday! I realized while looking for a photo the other day that while I frequently share my smaller Christmas pillows, wall hangings, and projects, I haven't shared my larger Christmas quilts in quite a little while...

so I thought today it would be fun for a Christmas quilt parade!

A Little Binding

Happy Monday...It's been a little of this and a little of that around here as I try to finish up the last minute gifts and preparations for the holidays.  On Friday my No Bake Jolly Bar quilt arrived in the mail, and I couldn't wait to get started on the binding. This isn't actually a Christmas present, but it was too cute not to get started finishing it!

Plus, it's perfect quilt binding weather as we've been having some cool temps!

OttLite Review

Happy Friday! Today I'm reviewing the OttLite 3-in-1 Craft Lamp. I received the lamp for free from the OttLite Company; however, all of the opinions in this blog post are my own. I've been using this light in my little sewing area in our family room for a couple of months now, and I don't know what I'd do without it!

I've always had this comfortable chair with an ottoman that is just perfect for hand-stitching and binding...but the lighting was always an issue until now.

The Carry All Pincushion

Happy Thursday! The other night I finally started (and finished) something I've had on my list for quite a while...

Back in September I had some scraps left over from my Strawberry Fields

More Gifts for Friends

Happy Wednesday! As I mentioned yesterday, I'm sharing some more gifts perfect for giving to friends (or for making for yourself). I have a couple more projects I'm working on that I'll share later this week...but for today, here are some of my favorite gifts I've made over the past few years.

First up is the Divided Basket by Noodlehead. I've made several of these now (I kept the one on the left, below, so I finally have one myself)! This is a terrific pattern that is great for any room of the house and for limitless uses!

Although I often give these for shower gifts, I keep mine in my sewing room!

Gifts for Friends: Little Bags

Hello! I thought it would be fun to post a few more gift ideas this week...not necessarily Christmas themed, but perfect for giving at Christmas and at other times of the year!

Since I just finished some little bags, I thought I'd give you my thoughts on my two favorite small bag patterns.

For a super-quick-to-make little bag, I love the Quick Zip Cases by Annie Unrein.

Merry Christmas Patchwork Pillow

Happy Monday! A couple of years ago I fell in love with a beautiful Christmas pillow I saw on-line. Then, just recently, Amy of Nana Company (the designer) published her pattern as a free PDF...I knew I had to make it...for this Christmas!

So while cutting out fabrics for the stockings I shared last week, I also cut out

Christmas Quilt

Happy Friday! Well...I set everything aside and put the red and green blocks together! I wasn't sure about the setting at first, but I really do think this setting lets each block shine on it's own. The sashing sets everything off beautifully, and the four-patch blocks add just the perfect pop of color as posts.

The quilt ended up quite a bit bigger than I imagined. I thought I was going to

Red & Green Christmas Quilt Blocks

Happy Thursday! On Monday I received my final package of instructions for the Classic Yuletide Block of the Month quilt I've been working on since March. So as you can imagine, I put everything on hold to get back to work on this! I know this is going to be a favorite quilt, so it was fun to be able to get started on finishing this up!

This month's fabrics were the red/ivory polka dots and a lot of Bella cream for

15 Things to Make for Christmas

Happy Tuesday! Today I thought it would be a lot of fun to do a project round-up post of things you can still start and finish up in time for Christmas. Although these are things I've made before, I'm going to be re-making some of these for gifts in the next week or so!

I've provided links to the tutorials and patterns for each of these projects...many of them are free, too! And...there are actually 17 ideas in this post now since I've added a couple of new ones.

Quilted Christmas Stockings

Happy Monday! On Saturday I did some assembly-line quilted stocking sewing! I have a couple of mini patchwork stockings I made a couple of years ago that are favorites; I decided if I didn't do the patchwork I could make a few for some quick gifts.

I actually made 5 new ones this weekend, but I already gifted one to my Mom who was here visiting and who helped me with some of the sewing!

Simple Quilts: No Bake Jolly Bar Pattern

Happy Friday! Today I'm sharing a new fast and fun quilt pattern from Fat Quarter Shop. A couple of months ago I was asked if I'd like to make and review this new pattern. Since I'm always looking for easy patterns for a quick gift and to recommend to beginner quilters, I agreed to do some Jolly Bar sewing.

Jolly Bars are Fat Quarter shop exclusive pre-cuts which are basically half of a Layer Cake.

The pattern calls for two Jolly Bars; I used two from the Hello Darling collection, but as I was sewing I kept thinking how much fun it would have been to combine Jolly Bars from two different fabric collections!

Christmas Sewing...Project Bags

Hi, and Happy Thursday! It's full-swing Christmas gift sewing mode over here, and this week I tried a new-to-me pattern for vinyl front quilted project bags.  There are lots of patterns available for these bags (including several free tutorials); however, I finally settled on this design because I wanted two specific features: a quilted bag with vinyl on just one side.

I really love the texture and stability that Soft & Stable provides, so I

Snapshots Quilt: Finished!

Hello! Happy Wednesday! I was planning on posting my Snapshots finished quilt on the 15th, and then yesterday I realized the final pattern is now available! Luckily I was a little ahead of the game and have my quilt back from the quilter! The machine work on my binding is finished too, and I just need to do the hand-stitching!

This month's block was a picnic basket and wine glass. Since I don't drink

December Small Quilts Parade

Happy December! December...really?!!! I do love this month, and I'm happy to begin here on the blog with a Mini's and More parade. We offered a free choice of patterns last month, and it really has been fun to see the projects come in...I know I have some new things to add to the list!

The first quilt is from Brenda who made this "Trees on the Table" for her

daughter's dorm room. The pattern is actually a free pattern by
