Red & White Moda Building Blocks Quilt

Happy Wednesday! My red and white Moda Building Blocks quilt is quilted, home, and bound! It has been such a fun journey to work on this quilt. I began it in the fall of 2014 knowing it was going to be a bit of a long-term project. It's a little bit sad to have this finished, I so loved working on it!

I will warn you there are a lot of photos on this post!

Bright Sun Herringbone Baby Quilts

Happy Tuesday! I have a friend who is having twins soon...she is 32 weeks along and has been getting her nursery ready for the soon-to-arrive baby boys. So I knew I'd better get busy and finish up the baby quilts I promised to make her!

I used the blues and light colored prints from Bright Sun along with two Bella solids...a creamy mint and Admiral Blue. The combination was a lot of fun to work with!

More Red and Green Quilt Blocks

Happy Monday! I hope you had a great weekend! I've been trying to catch up on this and that--I'm hoping by the end of July I'll be caught up with several projects I've fallen behind on. I think it's great to have on-going projects...projects that you expect to take a year or even a few years, but I do like to stay on top of block of the month quilts!

I got a notice the other day that month five of my red and green mystery quilt was shipping, so I figured I'd better get caught up with month three and four!

Farm Girl Milking Can Quilt Block

Happy Friday! Today is my day on the Farm Girl Vintage Sew Along (or otherwise known as Farm Girl Fridays)! Farm Girl Vintage is the latest book by Lori Holt of Bee in My Bonnet. The book is full of adorable blocks and fun projects which look terrific in any combination of fabrics and fabric styles.

I thought Farmhouse by Joanna Figueroa for Moda fabrics would be the perfect collection for my block.

I wanted something a little different for the top of my milk can and I

Happy Wednesday!  I'm stopping in to share something I've been working on...and something I've just found out is coming soon!

The quilts that inspired my red and white quilt have been preserved in a book which will release on September 22nd! Red and White Quilts: Infinite Variety: Presented by The American Folk Art Museum The book features a detailed look at the quilts in the Infinite Variety exhibit. It's an exhibit I would truly have loved to have seen in person, but at least there will now be a way to really study all of the amazing quilts in that exhibit. The book is a little pricey, but I know it will provide me hours and hours of enjoyment and inspiration!

Goody Goody Binding Kit

Recently my friend Vanessa posted a fun tutorial for a binding kit. It looked like such a fun project with some really great features...so of course I jumped at the chance to participate in a sew-along with Vanessa, Fat Quarter Shop, and some other sewists!

The hardest part (as usual) was choosing fabric...in the end I decided

How To: Scrappy Quilt Binding Tutorial

Happy Monday! Over the weekend I got the scrappy binding machine sewn to my "Go Four It" quilt along quilt. I just have the hand sewing left to do, but I took a few pictures and thought that today I'd share a little bit about my process for piecing and sewing a scrappy binding.

If you have left-over binding bits and pieces from other quilt projects, you can sew together a pieced scrappy binding in a hurry. But even if you're just cutting strips from your scraps or stash, this is a great way to make a fun binding. The first couple of times I made scrappy bindings I was super concerned about what size to cut the strips and even emailed some of my friends to ask what size strips they used. I really appreciated hearing their thoughts, and so hopefully some of these ideas will be helpful.

Scrappy Sawtooth Star Quilt Block

Happy Friday! It's Summer Sampler day, and today I have the instructions for a scrappy sawtooth star block. This one might just be my favorite yet, it adds so much color to the sampler!

I actually have a lot of left over half-square triangles from my market sewing,

Churn Dash Mini Quilt

Happy Thursday! Today I get to share a little mini I worked on last winter...a fun churn dash variation mini quilt perfect for a table topper or wall hanging.

It's always fun to see the photography layout when a quilt is published in a magazine...I absolutely love the blue Ball canning jars, and think this is a perfect display!

Red and Green Quilt Blocks

Happy Monday! I can't believe it's almost the middle of July...summer is flying by, and I still have so many projects to catch up on, to finish...and of course, to start! I took a little time this weekend to try and get a little caught up on my red and green quilt.  This is a mystery block of the month I've been doing with Fig Tree and Company. The block of the month program began right as I began my quilt market preparations, and so I knew I was going to have to play catch up somewhere down the road!

Normally I'm pretty good about keeping up with projects, so it's going to be great to get caught up!

Happy Friday! Yesterday I decided to make a few changes to my red and white quilt...

There were a couple of blocks that were bothering me, and as it got closer to the time when I knew I'd be taking the quilt to be quilted I knew I had to make a couple of changes. When I first started the quilt my plan was to include a lot of text prints and a variety of low-volume fabrics that included darker greys and blacks. So a couple of blocks made in the beginning used those types of fabrics. As I kept working on the quilt over a period of months, though, I didn't keep using the text fabrics and backgrounds with darker colors. My quilt really became a red and white quilt other than those early blocks.

Scrappy Log Cabin Quilt Blocks

Happy Tuesday! My jury service is complete, and I'm back to sewing! I've got all of my scrappy log cabin quilt blocks finished, cut, and divided for the block exchange. I'm really in love with the ones I've pieced and can't wait to see the blocks I'll receive in the swap.

I can't in any way take credit for this idea, but I'll explain the process for these blocks because it is the perfect way to use scraps! This method would make a fun holiday quilt of any kind, and would also be a great way to use any and all of those scrappy strips in the scrap bin!

Happy Fourth of July

Happy Fourth of July to all of my US friends...and happy weekend to everyone else!

Last year at just about this time I was finishing up my patriotic Nested Churn Dash...it's one of my favorites!

It's funny that even after making this king-sized quilt I still had plenty of scraps in the red, white and blue color way. (This quilt was made with all Minick & Simpson fabrics).

Summer Star Mini Quilts
