Works in Progress

The week or two after quilt market is always kind of interesting for me. I have a ton of projects I want to start, but I also usually have a few things to finish up so the works in progress pile doesn't get too out of control. And after fall market there is always my Christmas sewing that needs to be addressed.

But this year my number one after market goal was to finally decide what fabrics I would use for my "Moda Modern Building Blocks" quilt. After seeing the Ruby exhibit at International Quilt Market I knew I would be making a red and white version of this quilt.  So I started pulling fabrics and will start cutting some of the blocks today!

I also had a very important quilt to finish after market.

I used my Vintage Modern stash to sew up the "Century Farm" quilt from my book C&T Publishing Fresh Family Traditions: 18 Heirloom Quilts for a New Generation . I love how the design works to showcase all of these prints. The pattern in the book calls for a Layer Cake and makes a lap size quilt; however, I used a fat eighth bundle and was able to get 63 blocks; with the border this makes a twin-size quilt.

Since I was using the same pink/white stripe for the border and binding I decided to cut the binding on the bias, and I love how that turned out! This quilt is important because it's for the daughter of a friend. I made her older daughter a quilt from these same fabrics a couple of years ago and now her younger daughter will have a quilt with the same fabric combinations!

I'm also ready to hand stitch the binding on my "Mini Stems" quilt. It's a good thing I have lots of cutting and binding to do...I'm taking my main machine in for a service visit. I think she's sewn about one hundred quilts since I last took her in for some tender loving care!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Stripes on the bias make great bindings.

Vintage Modern my favourite fabric of all time. I'm using it for my Farmer's Wife Quilt. I also have a little stash of charm squares hidden too for that perfect project to come come along one day. I love your binding too, looks great on the bias.
