2014 International Quilt Market Part 1

My trip to International Quilt Market in Houston, Texas was kind of a whirlwind...less than 72 hours...but filled with the inspiration and energy that exists at every market. I'm sure it will take me a few posts to sort it all out, but I wanted to begin with a few photos from the Ruby Jubilee Celebration commemorating the 40th anniversary of Quilt Market.

This exhibit was inspired by the 2011 Infinite Variety: Three Centuries of Red and White Quilts in New York. While the Houston exhibit is comprised of different quilts...red and white quilts made since 1974 mixed with antique red and white quilts...the effect was awe inspiring.

Since I wasn't able to see the New York exhibit in person I was thrilled with the opportunity to view this collection. I heard about it the first day I arrived, but I waited until my last day to go experience the exhibit. I knew the quilt display would impact me, and I guess I just wanted to save it until the very end. It's so hard to leave market, but seeing these quilts seemed to complete my whole weekend. I'm even more motivated now to create some red and white quilts of my own!

I wish these photos could even partly convey the impact of this amazing display.

Hopefully I can unpack and get organized quickly so I can start working on my long list of projects. I had a few on the list before market, and now I have several more to add after seeing the sights in Houston!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

I have been impressed with the red and white quilt display I've seen photographed at Quilt Market. You know we all live vicariously through all of you who get to go, don't you? Thanks for posting these pics!

I look forward to getting to the show this weekend (when it is open to the 'little people'). I had no idea this was a theme for an exhibit and now I can't wait to see it in person as well. Thanks for sharing!

Thank you for the photos, it reminds me of the red and white quilts they had at the American Folk Art museum in NY.
