Works in Progress Wednesday: Process Edition

Happy Wednesday--welcome to my works in progress--process edition. I really feel like I want to share more about process when I write these progress posts; I really love when other quilters share their process and hope to be able to do the same.

Do you ever have those times when you don't know what to sew? Or maybe you feel like starting something new but feel a little guilty about the works you have in progress? When I feel that way my solution is to work on my scrap bin...after a little bit of sewing scraps I usually have a good idea of what I want to work on...and I'm more motivated to finish up my works in progress.

Last evening I was having such a hard time deciding what to sew; it was my first chance to be back in my sewing room for a few days, and I honestly didn't know where to begin! So, I just began by piecing a bunch of Somerset half-square triangles left over from earlier projects into some patchwork strips. It's good to have some sewn patchwork pieces ready to use for bags or other projects.

I also sewed together some Moda Candy mini charms from the Sewing Box collection. This piece is destined to become a "Sew Together" Bag.

Then I was ready to tackle the project I mentioned on Monday: choosing the final fabrics for my "Jumping Jacks" quilt. I started by setting out all of my previous blocks and then bringing fat quarters in to "audition" for the remaining spots. I can't even believe how long it took as the addition of each new fabric often caused me to make a change somewhere else.

And here they are...my final four blocks. Just to be sure I don't change my mind again I cut everything out and even did the strip-piecing for all of the parts and pieces. I'm super excited to get these sewn together today. Maybe I will get this quilt top together by the end of August.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

PS Congrats to Josie McRazie who won the Bear Creek Quilting Company giveaway.

Since completing your summer organizing series and making my lists, I've stayed pretty focused on my WiPs and UFOs. However, to keep things interesting, I have thrown in a new "quick" project here and there.

I look forward to seeing your Jumping Jacks quilt top finished!

I have moved back in to my redecorated, reorganized sewing studio. I hate to mess up all the tidiness! I am working on a tote bag with a Makin it Cute flower on it, using Weeds fabrics. Then I need to get back to some previously completed quilt tops that need to become quilts!

For me process is everything !!However, I find Im no longer getting satisfaction from machine sewing at all. I feel the need to go back woods and just have thread, needle and scissors with fabric . I feel the need to go back to pre rotary cutter days when you traced a piece of card board for your template and made each piece by hand !! Am I the alone ??? LOL

I love all the Fig-Tree-Ness in your post! I've finished a quilt top yesterday evening that was in my Ufo pile for a year and it feels so great to get it done:-)

Like Jeanna, I have stay focused on my lists...quilting and cross stitch. This week I completed 15 cross stitch finishes that had been collecting dust waiting to be something useful. That was my distraction and today it is back to pinwheels for my niece's quilt. Your Jumping Jack is going to be beautiful! The soft prints you have chosen are soo pretty together.

Usually I feel bogged down until my bee blocks are out of the way. Then it's play time!
Lovely work again : )
