Summer Days

It's hard to believe that July is almost over (and that we are also half-way done with the hot weather, too)! I know things have been quiet here on the blog, but a lot has been happening behind the scenes--I really will have some fun finishes to share soon. I've started a list of my quilt finishes (which I've been meaning to do for quite some time), have been setting blocks together, and have also made a little progress on some of my "Ten Things This Summer" list.

This week I've been making some of the most adorable blocks...this is all I can share for now, but I can tell you these are for the new Schnibbles pattern we'll be announcing on Thursday, August 1st.

I also made an impulse purchase this week (and I had been doing so well up until now with not buying anything that wasn't on the list). This fun collection of navy fat quarters will soon be found in several projects I have in mind.

Congratulations to Paula, who won the Bear Creek Quilting Company gift certificate. Please email me!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Insta-Saturday

It's afternoon, and I finally have enough chores done to head off to the sewing room! We received 1/2" of rain last night for which I'm very grateful; it's actually still very overcast with more chances for rain, so it's the perfect day to sew! I haven't had my camera out in a couple of days, but I do have a couple of Instagram pictures of what I've been working on (I'm sherrimcconnell on Instagram). I finished a much-needed new ironing board cover on Thursday night using two different red prints from Happy Go Lucky. I roughly used Randi's great tutorial here (although I had different sized pieces of fabric to work with). I also used 1 3/4 yards of elastic instead of threading cording through the casing. Ironing is definitely going to be a lot more fun with fresh fabric to look at!

All I managed to accomplish yesterday sewing-related was to finish up (80) 2 1/2" half-square triangles. These were all "cast-offs" from a quilt I finished up earlier this week. It always feels so good to save pieces that could have ended up in the garbage...it's even better when I get them sewn into useable pieces so quickly!  The quilt will be a new pattern very soon--next week, I hope, and it's my favorite so far! As soon as the pattern cover is finished I'll be sharing.

Okay...well I'm heading off to the sewing room...yay!  Hope you get to sew today, too!

Bear Creek Quilting Company Giveaway

Today I have a wonderful giveaway sponsored by Bear Creek Quilting Company--how about a $50 gift certificate to the shop?

Now available in the shop, Happy Go Lucky Honeycomb!

Shari of Bear Creek Quilting Company has had her on-line shop open since 2012. Shari is passionate about her love of fabrics and quilting, and she takes pride in her ability to treat every order with care! Here is a little bit of her business philosophy in her own words:

"I cut fabric orders with a generous allowance; I process and ship orders the same day whenever possible, and I track every order until delivery confirmation. Being an on-line shop, I can't give our customers the touch-n-feel part of fabric, but I can bring them realistic pricing, large detailed product images for easy shopping, and satisfaction with their orders."

Shopping at Bear Creek Quilting Company is easy with category pages like: Accuquilt Products, books, fabric, magazines, manufacturers, notions, patterns, and tools. I especially like the manufacturers tab for navigating the site--whether you are looking for Moda fabrics or Clover notions, you can find them easily through this tab.

One of the items on the coming soon page...Honeysweet!

For one entry, visit Bear Creek Quilting Company, then come back and leave a comment about something you'd like to purchase. For another entry, visit and "like" the Bear Creek Company Facebook page here, then come back and leave a comment saying that you did that.  Good luck...one lucky winner will receive a $50 gift certificate to Bear Creek Quilting Company. I'll keep the giveaway open through Monday evening!

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Christmas in July

July is quickly getting away...did you realize Christmas is just five months from today? I decided I'd better get going on some projects and  started my Mini Stockings...and I couldn't make just one. The pattern was so much fun! I think I could make many, many more if I made the solid fabric versions as shown on the pattern cover!

I can't say enough good about the pattern...it was  easy to follow, and you know the stocking is just so perfect. It's big enough for small gifts but small enough to be so absolutely adorable! The cuff was easy to make using Joanna's simple scallop method, and start to finish you can make one in just a couple of hours. Have you started sewing for Christmas yet?

Congratulations to Heidi who is the winner of the Modern Holiday book from my stop on Amanda Murphy's blog tour! Send me your address Heidi!

PS--I'm still working on getting my solids quilt put together...I'll have it ready soon. Thanks so much for stopping by!

Butterflies

I finished my scrappy butterfly quilt! This quilt (made from scraps) has been on my "list" since making the sample quilt for Joanna right before market.

The pattern is actually called "Painted Ladies." I had so much fun picking fabrics from my scrap bin and stash to piece the blocks. And it was easy to decide on a quilting pattern...I knew the Baptist Fan design would be perfect. However, choosing border fabric was another story.

Choosing a border for a scrappy quilt can sometimes be tricky. But my favorite print from "Happy Go Lucky" turned out to be just the right choice. I used the scallops on green from "Happy Go Lucky" for the binding.

I was determined to hang this quilt in the sewing room. This meant moving five quilts and shuffling a few things here and there. I wanted to keep my design board close to my sewing machine and by moving it over just a bit I was able to make room for the butterflies quilt.

You can probably tell I need to make a new ironing board cover...that's definitely on the list for this week!

Okay...one last shot...sorry for the photo overload on this one, but it sure was a fun quilt to think about, plan, and put together. It was the best kind of project.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Christmas in July

Happy Christmas in July! I have a few ideas to help you get started with your Christmas sewing, and we have a little parade of projects, too! I've been working on a "Scrappy Trip Around the World" Christmas quilt with a lot of help from my Quilting Bee Friends! I am so excited to have this quilt ready for Christmas!

Something else I'm working on right now is a collection of mini stockings using Joanna's little pattern. I can't wait to get started. I'm using one of Joanna's bundles of fabric...she has put together some wonderful Christmas bundles using Moda fabrics that might not be Christmas fabrics but are definitely Christmas colors...such a wonderful idea! (See Joanna's Christmas in July post here).

I love to make Christmas quilts, pillows, wall hangings and table runners.

Last year I made a hexagon stocking using Camille's "Merry" pattern.

I also stitched up Camille's "Vintage Holiday" using Aneela's Christmas collection.

And I made a super simple table runner using left-over jelly roll strips. I have a tutorial for this here on my blog but recently wrote it up as a PDF pattern available on Craftsy here.

I also made potholders and table mats last year using more scraps from my Vintage Holiday quilt.

And I sewed a flannel-backed tree skirt using Christmas scraps from a few different projects.

I try to make an ornament each year, and last year I made these little houses (tutorial here).

One of my favorite Christmas runners is from a pattern in my book... A Quilting Life: Creating a Handmade Home. And now here are a few Christmas in July projects sent in...if I've missed anyone's photo, please email me, and I'll add it right in.

First up is Hildy's version of the Schnibbles Little Bites pattern, Speck. Mini quilts are a terrific idea for Christmas gifts!

Next up is Julie's Winter Seeds Table Topper...gorgeous! You can find her tutorial here.

Lee Ann made Camille's Vintage Holiday...a terrific pattern!

How about a Christmas tote? Lisa made this adorable bag!

And Ramona made this darling Christmas Cups wall hanging! You can read her post about it here.

Nedra made this beautiful Christmas Pyramids quilt. You can read her post with pattern information here.

Remember, there are lots of Christmas projects in Amanda's Modern Holiday book, and you can still enter to win a copy here.

Thanks so much for stopping by!

Blogiversary/Birthday Winners

Soooo...My blogiversary was July 1st, and my birthday was just this week. I randomly picked winners from the "Ten Things For Summer" linky and comments as well as from yesterday's Wordless Wednesday post. (Thanks so much to everyone who linked up and listed ideas--I had so much fun visiting the blogs and reading comments. I think I'll have to utilize the linky gadget more often)! I have 6 prizes, and so the first person gets to pick first, the second person next, and so on. That saves me trying to match prizes to people! If your name is listed at the bottom of this post, please email me your choice of prizes in order 1-6, and I'll get them matched up and mailed out! First up is a bundle of Ombre Dot fat quarters by Riley Blake and donated by Sina of Quilt Essentials. Thanks so much Sina!

Next up is a jelly roll of Blitzen by Basic Grey from my collection.

I also have a copy of Edyta's most recent book, Seasonal Silhouettes which features raw-edge applique designs.

There is a layer cake of Deb Strain's Seascapes...gorgeous blues and teals!

A Jelly Roll of Basic Grey's PB&J...

And a Layer Cake of Pat Sloan's Bobbins and Bits Batiks collection!

Thanks so much to all of you who make this blog such a fun and rewarding experience for me. I appreciate what I learn from you and also appreciate all of your terrific comments! And now for the winners:
