Quilt Market Review Houston 2013 Part 1

I just got home this afternoon from Houston, and even though I've been up for quite a long time today because of the time zone change, I wanted to write a quick market post. This will be the first of several posts as I took plenty of pictures this time around! As usual, the Moda booth had a super fun theme--Make a Splash with Moda, and I loved all the nautical details in their booth area (The nautical costumes and entertainment at the Moda dinner were pretty fun, too).

For today's post I thought it would be fun to share the quilts I pieced that were on display at market. The first one I wanted to see was actually the last one I sewed--the navy version of Camille Roskelley's Starlight pattern. The picture above is from market, and the one below I borrowed from Camille (thanks, Camille).

This was a super fun quilt to work on (not hard, either--terrific pattern), and I'm thinking about starting another one right away! I could hardly wait to see it in person at market, and I practically made a bee-line for it once the show opened on Saturday morning.

I also made two quilts for my friend Joanna, and I had to go see them in her booth first thing, too. I pieced the Star Struck quilt above (another fun pattern)...

And I pieced Joanna's Canned Pears quilt as well. Canned Pears was another favorite of mine, and it's a fun and easy project. From the moment I started making it, I thought the pieced pears were pretty genius.

I also pieced the Sugar Stars quilt for my friend Lori which was in the Gracie Girl booth at Riley Blake! It's always fun to see the quilts I've pieced all quilted and finished up with gorgeous quilting bringing them to life.

I was also able to get a picture of a quilt my friend Sinta pieced using my "Shine" pattern. This quilt was in the Dear Stella booth and used their recent Perrymint collection.

And, here is my haul from the Moda booth at Sample Spree Friday night. I was lucky to pick up some Color Me Happy by Vanessa, some Ducks in a Row by Sandy Klop, and some Winter Wonderland by Anne Sutton. Of course, all the new Moda  fabrics are wonderful, and I was able to get some Moda candy packs of some other fun upcoming collections (I'll be sharing photos of those soon).

And last but not least...I just had to buy this t-shirt at the airport. I'm actually a native Texan, and hey, I think it's about time I had a "Texas" shirt to wear around here at home.

Market was an awful lot of fun--it's just an incredible treat and blessing to be surrounded by the most talented and creative people in the fabric industry. I always feel energized and inspired to come home and create even though I'm absolutely exhausted from several days of a nearly constant diet of beautiful prints, patterns, designs and textures.  This time around I was able to meet several quilters I previously knew only from their blogs and Instagram...and you know...they were all just as incredible and nice as I thought they would be. Aren't quilters the best?!

There are many more photos to come and lots of ideas spinning around over here--be back soon!  Thanks so much for stopping by!

You're amazing Sherri -- I don't know how you get all those quilts pieced -- you must have warp speed on your machine! Looks like you had a great time -- can't wait to see more!!!

Thanks so much fr the photos of the quilts! They are all beautiful! I was wondering if you would share how this process all comes into being? Do designers ask you to sew up their designs as a way of testing the pattern? Or just because they are busy and don't have time themselves? Do all designers do this or do some sew up their own designs like the MBS designers do? Just curious about the whole process!?

So glad you had a great time at Market!! I love the quilts that you pieced! I'm going to have to get Camille's pattern, and I saw your Pears quilt (wish I had known that you had made it when I saw it!) at PIQF and bought the kit, so I obviously loved that one too!! :-D
Hope you can catch up on your rest and feel refreshed soon!! Thanks for sharing your pics with us! Hugs, H in Healdsburg
