I'm excited to share my block with you for the Blogger's Block of the Month! This quilt-along was organized by Jackie of Canton Village Quilt Works; back in August she sent each participant the most gorgeous group of Kaffe fabrics from which to create our blocks. I had so many different block ideas that I finally had to just settle on one and get started! Jackie's rules were simple...everyone was asked to use the grey print and at least a couple of the others. I decided to use all of them...how was a girl to choose! If you are quilting along this should be a great stash-quilt. You might also be able to make all of the blocks just from left-overs of another project since the blocks finish at 8 inches. Okay...let's get started--my block is fast and easy!
Here's what you'll need:
- 8 - 2 1/2'' squares background fabric (I used the Kaffe grey).
- 4 - 2 1/2'' squares of medium/dark prints (I used four different Kaffe prints--you could make them all the same or use two each of two different prints).
- 2 - 2 7/8'' squares background fabric (again I used the Kaffe grey).
- 2 - 2 7/8'' squares of another medium/dark print ( I used two of the same, but you could use two different fabrics here as well).
The first step is to cut all four 2 7/8'' squares in half diagonally.
Next, sew these together using a 1/4'' seam to make half square triangles.
I press my seams open when making half-square triangles; I find this really helps when setting half-square triangles together in blocks. Trim off the little triangles left over at the corners. You now have 4 completed half-square triangle blocks!
Now you're ready to lay out all the pieces and start assembling your block! Lay out the block pieces as shown above and sew each row together (again use a 1/4'' seam). Press.
I pressed all of my seams so that when sewing the rows together seams would "nest." Sew all four rows together...press...
And then you'll have your completed block! Since Jackie is collecting all of our blocks to make a donation quilt, I'll be making my own set of blocks as well and will be sharing those with you monthly as each block is posted. I'll also be reminding you each month about the next stop on the tour!
Hope you'll join along with us...for more information you can go here! Pat has already made a great block...go here to see hers!
Also, once you've made your block, don't forget to join the flikr group here:

I love your block! And good choice to use lots of fabrics!
How do I join? Do I just make your block with my fabric and next month make the next one in line?
Will this be a totally scrappy quilt? Or should all the blocks be from the same fabric line?
Thanks....
Mary
I love the colors in this block. I am going to go through my stash this afternoon and see if I can find some brights. My stash is getting pretty low but I'm sure I can find something to get me started. : ) Thanks for the great inspiration.
