Mini-Vacation

My younger son had a football camp to attend last week, so we took the opportunity to get out of the heat and visit family in northern Utah.  The days were beautiful, the evenings were cool and crisp, and I had a couple of hours one afternoon to visit a couple of quilt shops and have lunch with my friend Lori! First stop was Material Girls where I got to say hi to Nadine and where I spied the "Vintage Dishes" quilt I pieced with Sew Cherry hanging in the shop!

Material Girls is one of the most amazing shops--there is inspiration everywhere you turn.  It's almost overwhelming--I always find too many things I want!

This display of ric rac and trims was so cute in and of itself.  Did I mention I love this shop? I was really hoping to find some of the Lecien Old New fabric, and Material Girls had a terrific selection!

Lori brought along a wonderful gift for me--her package was wrapped so beautifully that I waited until I took a picture to open it!

Inside was one of Lori's wonderful mini-design boards--sized just right for my Farmer's Wife quilt blocks. If you don't already follow Lori's blog, she has a great tutorial to make these design boards here and here.  She's also been posting great tutorials and tips for drafting the Farmer's Wife blocks!

And here is what I bought at Material Girls...a few fat quarters of Sweet Broderie--this was the first time I'd seen this line in person, and I fell in love with it right away!

And I picked up a few fat quarters of the Old New fabric. I don't know if I could pick a favorite here...I love every piece of this collection!

More fabric...the fun "sewing" room fabric at the top left was a gift from Lori.  The top right shows two Art Gallery fat quarters I picked up and a button print fabric I couldn't resist.  The lower left fabric is by Lakehouse, and the lower right fabric is a print I ordered on-line after seeing it on Cindy's blog.

It was fun to get away, but it's also good to be home.  Hopefully I'll get caught up with my comments and e-mails soon...and of course there is lots of sewing I want to do!  Thanks so much for stopping by!

Oh you lucky gal! I had to move from Salt Lake City to So Cal because my DH got a job here. I miss Utah so much! I love Material Girls. Their shop is awesome. I used to get all my wool felt from them. I hope to get back to see family during the Christmas holidays. It will take me that long to save up for gas! Thank you for sharing your trip so I could live vicariously through you.

I have been addicted to Lori's blog the past week or so, and decided to join in the FWQAL. My daughter wants to play too, and today we are going to make Lori's little design boards!

What a great chance to get out of town, AND visit such a fun quilt shop! I love getting a peak inside. That package you got is fabulous! Great idea to have a mini design board, especially for making blocks for the Farmers Wife project. I'm really loving all those fabrics too.

Thanks so much for the pics. I think I used to go to MG ... well, we'll just say "every other day" so that people won't really think I went more often. Since my move to many states away, I never get to go to MG any more. So, this was a treat. I knew before reading your post that it was MG because of all the fun things in the pics. Thanks, again!!! I love your blog!!!

I was so overwhelmed when I got to visit Material Girls this past May. It is a great shop.
Love all your blocks. I am not tired of looking at them.
Your studio is such a nice place to sew.
I made some of Lori's little block holder too. Pretty handy. Haven't posted them yet.
